The it at school project under general education department was setup to augment the it education in schools and also to enhands the quality of it education towards a complete ICT enabled education system.   The project envisages enhancing in the role of information technology as a teaching aid for learning all subjects. IT @ school projects is termed as the single largest simultaneous deployment of FOSS based ICT education in the world..Headquarters in Thiruvanadapuram the project has district resource centers in each district.
          The project is the nodal is the agencies for all e- government activities under general education department and also the model agencies for implementing EDUSAT  operations in the state under which an educational Chanel viz  VICTERS  is functioning. Kerala has been the role model for other states in terms of numerous educational initiatives but this rarkable achievement, IT Education in the state early 2000 was not found effective with respect to the state school curricular.
          There was no dedicated system to take care of this requirement and also their  was ineffective infrastructural amenities available in the schools to overcome the hurdle, government of Kerala rolls out the IT @ school project in year 2001 , to augment the it education  in schools also to enhands the quality of it education towards a complete ICT enabled educational system. The project is the outcome of the vision document developed by the state appointed task force headed by prof: UR Rap in 2000.
             The project is know being implemented from lower primary to higher secondary classes in the state covering as many as 12,000 schools. The project aims to empowe all the school teachers in the state on ICT Tools making them IT champions and also to implement ICT enabled learning system for all subjects..apart from infrastructure deployment to school , the project also ensure the proper maintanence of hardware equipments.
 IT @ School is the model agency for implementing EDUSAT  network in the state and runs and exclusive Chanel for education called VICTETS ( versatile ICT enabled resource for schools) ,, which I'd know aired for 17 hours a day from 6 am to 11 pm. The project has now associated with BSNL  to provide high speed internet broadband connectivity to all high schools in Kerala.
 The success of the project can be visualised by the conduct IT practical examination in free software students, 1 st of this world so much wast resourceful deployment of free software. The  effort of the project so deployment of adequate IT infrastructure to all schools including computers and other accessories.
